2011 BTCA NATIONAL SPECIALTY -- Arizona
The Grand Canyon Border Terrier Club will host the 2011 BTCA National Specialty, in Prescott, Arizona. Proposed dates are September 11-16, 2011. The Bradshaw and the Mingus Mountains circle the valley in which Prescott is located. Since we sit at 5500 ft elevation we experience moderate seasons. Average high is in the low 80's usually with a light breeze and morning lows are in the low 50's, so bring shorts and a jacket. The show will be outside on grass. Earthdog Dens are just a short walk from the show site. Everything will be held on site. There will be lots of room to roam. Pioneer Park is surrounded by wilderness area and hiking trials. You can fly into Phoenix and rent a car. You will drive through the Soronan Desert, the only place the saguaro cactus grows, up to the pine trees. The drive up will take about 2 hours unless you stop to enjoy the scenery.
Ending on Thursday gives everyone time to arrive home in time for work on Monday or to stay over a few days and enjoy the diversity of Arizona. Within a 2 hour or shorter drive you can go from 5500 ft elevation to 12000 ft or down to the Soronan Desert at 1200 ft. you can see the Grand Canyon, Indian Ruins, amazing lakes and mountains. It is just a short drive to walk back in time and enjoy dinner at the Palace where Wyatt Earp once enjoyed a drink and dinner. Historic downtown Prescott Courthouse Square offers great shopping and western history. Prescott is dog friendly and a place you will want to visit again and again. It's more than a National it will be an Experience! The Arizona Experience
The 2011 Specialty Sweepstakes Judge will be Amanda Pough, Bandersnatch Borders VT.
